Good to know

No uniform national tariff

Austria has no uniform catalogue of fines. The law only sets the range; each authority fixes its own amounts for on-the-spot and anonymous notices. The app therefore always shows the statutory range and – where documented – the usual amount with its source.

New since 30.07.2026

Higher fines for speeding: more than 30 km/h over € 200 to € 5.000 (previously from € 150); more than 40 km/h over in built-up areas or 50 km/h outside € 400 to € 6.000 (previously € 300 to € 5.000).

Measuring tolerance

The measuring tolerance is not fixed by statute; it follows from the calibration error limits of the devices and from the authorities' practice. A notice usually states the value after deduction – in that case choose “Tolerance already deducted”.

  • Laser Laser and newer speed cameras: 3 km/h up to a reading of 100 km/h, above that 3 % (rounded up).
  • Radar Older radar devices: 5 km/h up to a reading of 100 km/h, above that 5 % (rounded up).
  • Section control 3 km/h up to an average of 100 km/h, above that 3 % (rounded up).
  • Police pacing By police car: 15 % of the speedometer reading, accepted as appropriate by the courts.
